Today we awoke bright and early to a beautiful day (supposed to reach the 90’s). After breakfast, and time in the Word, we packed our lunches and headed for Food & Friends, one of D.C.’s leading food service providers. Each day, about 1,400 clients in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia receive healthy meals delivered to their home by staff and volunteers. These clients are not only burdened with poverty, but also serious health and dietary needs. Without the food provided by Food & Friends, hunger and malnutrition would prevail. For the morning, 8 of our team worked at the facility bagging groceries and prepping them for delivery. The other 5 travelled on delivery routes to transfer the food to the clients.
From there we headed to the campus of Catholic American University to eat our lunches in the cool air conditioned café underneath the beautiful cathedral.
Then, off to ROJA to spend some time again with the new friends we met yesterday. After some homework help, it’s outside play time! As I sit writing this, it is so encouraging to see the students loving these children, laughing and playing with them, and enjoying their time here. Natalie, Jonah, Nicole, and Julie, are sitting on the playground teaching some of the children about Jesus Christ using the Evangecube. Kyle is under a tree having a great conversation with little Selah about Jesus, talking her through the Cross Talk tract and patiently answering her many questions. Pascal, Patience, Jonathan, and Billy have just concluded a game of kickball and are moving on to “Klumps”. Rachel is talking and playing with a little girl at a picnic table in the shade.
In a little while, the children will head to their apartments and we will head to dinner. We pray our time here will remind these precious little ones that God loves them and wants a special relationship with them, and we pray that God will use the seeds sown here to bring these little ones closer to Him.
Pictures to come later!
